Reserve Retention Options
Military Service Obligation (MSO) Reduction
a. ELIGIBILITY. (1) Soldiers transitioning from the AC are eligible to reduce their MSO in exchange for a commitment to transition directly into a TPU of the SELRES. (2) Soldiers in the IRR, whose last period of service was in the Active Component and still have a portion of their 8-year MSO remaining may have their remaining MSO reduced by any monthly total (in whole months) not to exceed one-half, if the Soldier agrees to serve in a TPU. (3) Soldiers in any MOS are eligible for MSO Reduction. (4) Calculation utilized for determination of MSO reduction must be IAW USARC policy guidance. b. OPTIONS. A maximum 24 months reduction is authorized; however, the statutory six (6) year service obligation must be served. Upon MSO reduction, Soldiers must be able to serve a minimum of 12 months in a TPU. Note: Soldiers electing MSO Reduction are not eligible for any monetary incentives.
Mobilization (MOB) Deferment (Non-Deployability)
a. AC Soldiers who transfer directly into a Troop Program Unit (TPU) are authorized up to 24-month stabilization and up to 4 years ARNG State dependent.
Drill Sergeant Program
REQUIREMENTS
•Meet physical fitness standards and pass the APFT •Meet Army height and weight standards •High school diploma or GED •Minimum GT score of 100 ( or 90 with a waiver) •Display professional military bearing and good conduct •Good communication skills •Minimum four-years of military service •Pass background screen
Active Guard Reserve (AGR) Enlisted and Officer

ENLISTED SOLDIERS If you are an enlisted Soldier interested in applying for an Active Guard Reserve job:
•You must be discharged from your current component of the Army, Army Reserve or Army National Guard.
•You must be at least 18 to 54 years old (you must not have reached your 55th birthday).
•You must be in ranks SPC through MSG/1SG.
•You must have accrued less than 15 years of active federal service.
•You must be eligible for reenlistment or extension.
•You must meet the medical fitness standards for retention prior to entry.
•You must pass a Defense Central Investigative Index
•You must NOT have been relieved from any duty assignment for cause in the 36 months prior to your application.
•You must NOT have been involuntarily removed from Active Duty.
Commissioned and Warrant Officers If you are an Officer or Warrant Officer applying for the Active Guard Reserve program:
•You must be pending discharge from your component of the Army, Army Reserve or Army National Guard.
•You must be in ranks 2LT through MAJ or W01 through CW4.
•You must have completed the Officer Basic Course, if you have served less than five years in rank (Lieutenant or Captain).
•You must have completed the Captain’s Career Course, if you have served more than five years in rank (Captain or Major).
•You must have accrued less than 15 years of active federal service (qualified applicants may seek a waiver).
•You must meet medical fitness standards for retention prior to entry.
•You must pass a Defense Central Investigative Index.
•You must NOT have received a referred Officer Evaluation Report in the 12-month period prior to the date of application or entry.
